About Brighton & Hove Beach Volleyball Community

This app was created to make it easier for people in the Brighton & Hove beach volleyball community to organise games, find players, and get more people playing.

A few years ago, there was a big shared Google Doc that people used to post and organise games. It made it easier to find players, arrange matches, and play with people outside your usual circle. For many players, including me, it helped make the beach volleyball community feel more open and accessible.

This app was built in the same spirit.

The problem

Organising beach volleyball can get messy quickly.

You book a court, then you need to find players. Someone says yes, someone says maybe, someone pulls out, someone messages privately, someone replies in a group chat, and suddenly you are scrolling through WhatsApp trying to remember who actually said they were coming.

It gets even harder when you are trying to organise by level, format, venue, time, number of spaces, or waitlist.

The idea

The aim of this app is to make that process simpler.

Players can post games, set the format, choose the level, add the venue and time, set the number of spaces, and let others sign up properly.

People can see what sessions are available, who has signed up, what level the game is aimed at, whether it is 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, beginner-friendly, intermediate, advanced, or something else.

Hopefully, this makes it easier to:

  • Find players
  • Keep track of sign-ups
  • Handle drop-outs and waitlists
  • Organise games by level and format
  • Play with a wider mix of people
  • Help newer players get involved without needing to already know everyone

Free for the community

This platform is free to use.

It was built as a community tool, not as a paid service. The goal is simply to make it easier for people to organise and play more beach volleyball.

I intend to keep the platform free for as long as I can reasonably afford to run it. If the running costs grow in the future, I may need to add a small amount of non-intrusive advertising or another light-touch way of covering costs.

If that ever happens, the aim would be to keep it minimal, transparent, and respectful of the community. The platform is not intended to become a spammy or heavily commercial service.

A work in progress

This app was built using AI, so it may not be perfect. There may be bugs, weird behaviour, or the occasional small fire.

If you run into any issues or have ideas for how it could be improved, feedback is very welcome. The app will hopefully get better over time based on how people actually use it.

Built with love for the Brighton & Hove beach volleyball community.
